The best way to learn Chinese is actually use Chinese everyday, I think.

I think you'd better attend some courses at a University or private training center. or you may study online at you leisure-time with some internet tools. i just know a website http://www.chinesetime.cn/. they can teach you Mandarine with a series of systematic courses through Skype.
Moreover, I think you can make friends with your chinese colleagues, most of them are eager to improve English by chatting with foreigners. so..win-win. Maybe we could be friends and improve together.

I think talking is the best way to learn Chinese, as you learn English. Once I rented together with an Englishman. He only has been in China for three months. But he can say hello with us in Chinese. He has a girlfriend, who is a Chinese. We always speak in Chinese, and her girlfriend teaches him, like how to say vegetables, what is this in Chinese. You also can find many Chinese friends to talk with them.
